Custom and personalized orders
All items at Box of Hollyhocks are one-of-a-kind vintage.
Customization and ring re-sizing is not available through Box of Hollyhocks. Your local jeweler may have re-sizing options for you and be able to provide you with a pricing estimate. I recommend inquiring with your jeweler before purchasing.
Sizing details
The mannequin bust is an approximate size medium.
bust: 36"
waist: 27"
hip: 34"
When measuring garments, bust is measured armpit to armpit, then doubled. All other measurements are measured flat, seam to seam.
Tagged vintage sizes run small compared to modern sizing.
Vintage footwear runs small compared to modern sizing. The insole measurement is the approximate length of the shoe's interior footbed. This measurement should be the approximate length of your foot.
Care instructions
Sterling silver will patina over time. To keep your sterling brilliant, I recommend a basic jewelry polishing cloth. Never use steel wool or an abrasive material to polish jewelry.
For leather, lightly spot clean soiled areas with a damp cloth asap. For a care product I recommend a conditioning balsam.
Wool sweaters and most vintage clothing can be hand washed and air dried. Avoid washing machines and dryers.
Rugs, textiles, beadwork and embroidery should be professionally cleaned. Hand washing/soaking these items may cause color bleed.
Silver and gem testing
Native silver can range in purity from coin silver (90.0%) to sterling silver (92.5%). Not all sterling is stamped "925" or "sterling" but is non-magnetic. Results of a silver acid test and silver weight can be provided upon request.
Stabilized turquoise is treated stone to achieve turquoise coloration. 90% of turquoise on the market is stabilized. Stabilized turquoise is not the same as plastic/faux turquoise often used in contemporary costume jewelry. In the United States, genuine US turquoise is rarely present in jewelry later than 1970.
A professional gemologist can help determine a stone's age, origin, and mineral makeup.
